Starbucks Steps Up Big Time

October 27th, 2008
Clothes for Kids would like to thank Starbucks Coffee Company for a generous $1000.00 matching donation we have received. A Starbucks employee made a donation at the Annual Clothes for Kids, Celebrate the Children Auction in September and the Seattle based company matched the gift. Remember, if your company has a similiar plan, and many local companies do, this is a great way to multiply your gift and make a real difference in the community. The funds are timley and will do a lot to help. Be sure and call the shop to volunteer or let us know if you know of someone who needs our services. 425-741-6500

Local Media Spurs Help From Near and Far

October 27th, 2008
Thanks to help from the local media the word got out about the dire need for donations and volunteers to help meet the growing demand for services at Clothes for Kids in Lynnwood. Following are few excerps of stories related to the CFK Volunteers and Board members from Nancy Laird Burris - The Program Manager at CFK, about the response from locals and caring folks from many parts of Western Washington.

“A couple drove here from Issaquah after hearing our plea on the news for support. They went out to the mall and purchased new clothing to bring to us and the man told me he understands a lot of families are having a hard time as he is laid-off right now. I was blown away that they would drive to Lynnwood from Issaquah and they bought new clothes at a time when he doesn’t have a job.”

  • We received a check for $100.00 with this note. “I raised a large family and feel for those in need. Please thank Kristi O’Harran for the story in the Everett Herald“. Another check for $100.00 arrived with this note. “To help a little/sorry it can’t be more”.
  • Calls came in from Auburn, Kingston, all over the Seattle area, Bellingham, Bellevue, and the list goes on, some wanting to deliver clothes to us and others needing our help. One mother called and said she saw CFK on the news and wanted to know could we help her 5 kids, they needed winter clothes. I am happy to say she came in to shop this past week and we did ok, not great, with providing clothing. We have a sorting room full of clothing but we need extra volunteers to help us sort and process the clothing so we can restock the racks.
  • “The little girl opened her backpack and took out three pairs of shoes and said, “These are special shoes and you don’t step in the mud when you wear these shoes”. How sweet and generous for a little girl to give us her special shoes.”

  • As you can see, we are overwhelmed by the support in more ways than one. Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to help, and be sure to let us know if you can make a donation or volunteer some time to help process the donations we have received so far. The shop phone is 425-741-6500 if you know someone who needs help.

The Local Community Responds to Call for Help

    October 19th, 2008
As of Saturday the local community was responding generously to the urgent call for donations of Clothing and Money made Thursday to assist Clothes for Kids in meeting the record demand the shop has experienced since the opening of school. According to Shop and Program Manager, Nancy Laird Burris, the shop has been going through clothing as fast as it can be processed from the back door to the shop floor. Additional volunteers have been recruited to help with the push. Monetary donations are helpful in covering the additional cost of utilities and supplies needed to process the clothing donations received by CFK and also to pay for new Underwear and Socks to complete the wardrobes provided to the kids being served. For 24 years, Clothes for Kids has helped foster a healthy learning environment in our schools by providing clothing and resources to community members in need. This year client need has soared to more than 25% above last year’s record numbers. Your donations of gently used clothing for kids from toddler to high school age can be dropped off at the shop near Beverly Elementary School in Meadowdale. Monetary Donations can be made at the Clothesforkids.org website. Thanks again to all those community members who have responded to the call. The Shop Phone is 425-741-6500 to offer assistance or to get the help you need.
